So you want to know more about a documentary family session...
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located, do you travel?
I'm based out of Alton, New Hampshire.
I'm happy to travel to your home or meet you at a location that is meaningful to your family.
How would you describe your style?
I shoot in a documentary style, it is an unposed and unscripted approach to photography. It's a wonderful way to capture images that are meaningful to your family.
If the idea of wearing matching outfits and posing awkwardly makes you cringe, this style is for you!
Let your kids run wild, do your household chores, change diapers, feed your family, go about your day.
These moments might seem boring to you, but someday they will be cherished memories for your family.
What should we wear?
Wear what you would on any given day, being comfortable is important.
If you lounge around in yoga pants and an oversized tee, great.
If you get up an hour before your little ones and do your hair and make up for the day, that's great too!
The best images come from a place of honesty and comfort.
You want to look back on these images and feel like you are brought right back to that moment in time, the season of life you were in, not the feeling of a scratchy new shirt or uncomfortable shoes.
What do we need to do to prepare for our session?
If you have small children it may help to let them know ahead of time that a friend is going to come by and play/join on an outing, after all that is what I will be doing, all while capturing moments along the way.
You may choose to tidy up your house, but it is completely unnecessary. I promise you cereal on the floor or dog hair on the couch will not be the highlight of your final images.
What should we expect during our session?
I always make a point to interact with families prior to bringing the camera to my face. I genuinely want to get to know your family and gain their trust.
My job is to learn about your family and create images that are unique and meaningful to you.
I will not ask you to look at the camera and say cheese, but I will be ready to capture the moments that naturally unfold.
I won't be a fly on the wall, I will be interacting with you and getting to know your family.
As everyone warms up to the camera that's when the magic happens.
The best thing you can do is stay relaxed and keep the day as normal as possible, if a child senses the parents are stressed, rushing, or trying to get a certain outcome they often sense that and clam up.
I have years of experience interacting with children and can navigate anything that comes my way, I welcome all feelings and emotions.
